Day Tours Bamberg Countryside
Bamberg is an amazing, beautiful and historic beer city, worth visiting over and over…but is only the TIP OF THE ICEBERG!
The area around Bamberg has even more scenic breweries, beer kellers and beer gardens! No matter if you go North, South, East or West outside of the city…you will hit whole clusters of breweries and beer kellers. Each with it’s own beer and food specialties! There are many very small family owned breweries, where certain Franconian beer traditions have survived that are found nowhere else in the world!
The tours start at latest 11:00 and go to at least 19:30!
Day tours DO NOT include a hotel room for that night! I do suggest getting a room for the night after a tour though! I CAN be of assistance in booking a room if needed.

EACH DAY TOUR INCLUDES AT LEAST
- Visiting 5 breweries or one of their official locations
(taproom, gasthaus or beerkeller/garden) and at least one beer or other beverage at each. - One tour of a brewery or other major beer industry/culture
relevant site. - One beer tasting at one of the brewery locations.
- – Lunch AND Dinner at a „Brauereigasthof“ (brewery
restaurant/inn). Each meal includes a beer or other beverage. - ALL transportation DURING the tour.
- …and of course being guided at all times by an English
speaking local…ME!
FRANCONIAN TUSCANY
The area to the East, right outside Bamberg, has been named „Franconian Tuscany“. It derives its name from the landscape and rolling hills which is reminiscent of the Tuscany region in Italy. Although a relatively small area, it has many bike & hiking paths, churches, palaces and 13 breweries!
This tour is split into two days, Saturday and Sunday. The tours can be booked seperately or combined. A single tour costs 199,- Euro per person, per day. If the Saturday and Sunday tours are combined, the price is 398,- Euro per Person for both days.
Since this is generally a one day tour, the hotel room is NOT included, but I can be of assistance in getting a room if needed.

LOOKING OUT MY BACKDOOR
This tour is especially important to me, since it visits breweries that are basically right out my back door in the area where I live. The name therefore derives from another thing I love…Creedence Clearwater Revival!
I live in a small town to the West, right outside of Bamberg. The first official tour I gave was of the breweries right around where I live. A beautiful area with quite a few really good breweries! I decided to start in this area, since most of these breweries don’t get that much attention from tourist and beer sites. Here you can see many examples of Franconian brewing traditions, that have been lost in the rest of Germany. This tour will take you to tiny towns, off the beaten path, that most tourists don’t even known about!
This tour is on Saturdays, starts at 10:00 and goes to at least 19:30!

ITZGRUND TOUR
The Itzgrund is an area North of Bamberg and South of Coburg, along the Itz River. The first settlements date back to 4000 BC! This area also boasts some great small, family owned breweries that most tourists won’t find! Even here, you will find the beer scene has not stood still.
Although itinerary and routes may change depending on weather, local events, unforeseeable circumstances etc., some breweries that we plan on visiting are:
Brauerei Zum Goldenen Adler – This tiny family owned brewery was founded in 1775 and makes a classic example of an unfiltered, Franconian keller beer!
Sonnenbräu Schmitt – Another small family owned brewery, that not only brews great traditional Franconian beers, but has started brewing more modern and international styles, like IPAs, imperial stouts and barrel aged beers the past years. A great example of how traditional expertise can produce high quality international beer styles!
This tour is on Sundays.
